DESCRIPTION: This multi-level 3 bedroom home easily accommodates 1 - 6 people. It has an access ramp leading to the main living areas. The interior living areas include an open Great Room (kitchen/ dining/living room) with large windows looking out on the Wailuku River valley, three bedrooms of varying size, two full bathrooms, a half bath, and an office. The all electric kitchen is spacious, allowing for several cooks. A side entry utility room holds a a clothes washer and dryer. Spacious exterior living spaces include several covered lanais (decks).
The front entry lanai has a rocker and porch swing. The riverside lanai has a 'Softub' hot tub and is large enough for casual entertaining and dining. An easel and painting supplies can be found on the upstairs riverside lanai. Gentle river sounds add a sense of isolation and tranquility to the home, even though it is located close to downtown Hilo. At night, tiny chirping tree frogs join in with the river sounds to let you know you are in the tropics. A variety of flowers can be picked in the yard. A carport and covered walkways keep you dry during tropical downpours. Retired school librarian and retired elementary school principal. Each now does occasional part-time / contract work and both volunteer in the local community mediation program. METROPOLITAN AREA: Honolulu, Hawaii. Downtown Hilo is a five minute drive / 25 minute walk away, and includes a variety of ethnic restaurants, many small shops, museums, and theaters. and an excellent twice weekly Farmers' Market. Surfing, kayaking, and swimming areas are short drives away, as are hiking trails and botanical/ flower gardens. Hilo's East Hawaii Cultural Center offers various art classes. The Univ. Of Hawaii at Hilo, with its Imiloa Astronomy Education Center and Performing arts center, is a 10 minute drive across town. Volcano National Park, with museams and a wide variety of hiking trails, is a forty five minute drive. Kona is a two hour drive from Hilo, but Waipi'o Valley and the Parker Ranch country (Waimea) are only an hour or so away. Honolulu is a 45 minute flight from Hilo. PREFERRED DESTINATIONS: open PERIOD OF AVAILABILITY: open, depending on upcoming work and volunteer projects, etc.
