DESCRIPTION: Our house is in a rural location, set among 16 acres of Ash and Sycamore trees which enclose our landscaped south facing rear garden on 3 sides making it very private. The property extends to lovely Kilgory Lake, a prime 80-acre course-angling fishery of the East Clare Lakeland. We keep a small angling boat, which may be used by guests (Google Map: 52.854475, -8.688743). Our home is a spacious and stylish 4-bedroom Dorma house of recent construction (3400sq ft), set in the heart of the beautiful East Clare hills and Lakeland’s. We can comfortably accomodate 8 persons; 3 bedrooms have queen beds, 1 has 2 single beds. Each bedroom has it's own bath/shower room and facilities. The living accommodation comprises a sunny sitting room with wood burning stove; dining room, family room with satellite TV with movie channels, DVD, stereo (+Ipod dock) and stove, large and well appointed modern kitchen adjoining. Wood floors or tile throughout. All have access and views to the private terrace, garden and trees beyond. There is also a study/library with a good selection of books and computer with ISDN internet access and Ipod player and utility room with usual washer and dryer and facilities. We also maintain a small vegetable/herb garden and glasshouse, the produce of which guests are very welcome to avail of in season. We have a pet dog (Collie), which lives outside but is let in to the garage at night. She can be kennelled if preferred. Auto exchange may be possible.
Despite our rural setting, we are well located for touring the Clare region and beyond. Ireland is a small country and most places can be travelled to in less than 2 hours. The nearest town of Ennis and Limerick City are well linked by train and bus to the rest of Ireland. Through nearby Shannon International Airport we are well and quite inexpensively connected to the UK and mainland Europe. We are both in our early 50's, semi-retired and fairly flexible in our exchange arrangements. We have two grown children, one recently graduated and another still at college in Dublin. Brian was a University Lecturer and Caroline is a Registered Nurse. We have been in Ireland since 2000, having moved here from the south of England. Situated in the mid-west region of Ireland, County Clare boasts truly breathtaking scenery and a wonderfully warm, charming and welcoming people. Clare is a magical county, full of surprise and contrast, majestic Cliffs of Moher, through the limestone lunarscape of the Burren and on by Ireland's largest pleasure lake, Lough Derg and then back to the wonderful seascape of West Clare. Here in the middle and east of the county, you will find a patchwork of fishing lakes teeming with game and coarse fish, to the north and west you will find magnificent resorts and beaches all along our Atlantic Ocean coastline. So if it's walking, cruising, golfing, eating out, fishing, horse riding, flying surfing, dolphin watching or just listening or joining in with the traditional music in the local pubs - County Clare has it all. PREFERRED DESTINATIONS: Open to all offers but quite interested in USA: California; Europe: All Capital Cities. Very happy to consider long weekend exchanges within Europe.
