Views out the sunroom range from weekend hot air balloons, to southwest flora and fauna (coyotes, pheasants, ducks, geese, roadrunners, hawks, owls, raccoons and an occasional eagle). A ten mile bike trail parallels the river, which also features the largest stand of Cottonwood trees in the US. The home is located in a secure, gated community of 52 homes, all custom. Our home is located in Albuquerque's North Valley, the original area settled by the Spanish Conquistadores. We are 1.5 miles from historic Old Town with its period shops, cafes and 307-year-old church. We would like to exchange our home for like homes in most countries of the world. We are retiring in mid-2012, so will be open to most times and durations - especially seeking warmer climates during the winter months. We have a tabby that spends most time outdoors and would like the exchanger to consider looking after him. However, this is not a deal breaker. METROPOLITAN AREA: Albuquerque Albuquerque is only a 50-minute drive from Santa Fe, Conde Nast's #2 US tourist destination and world reknown art center. The adjacent Sandia Mountain wilderness area offers, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking and rock climbing. The nearby Sandia Mountain Tramway has the longest clear-span in the world. White Sands Missile Range, Historic Taos (home of Kit Carson and a well-known art colony)and seven Indian Pueblos are easy day trips. Excellent trout fishing and elk hunting available in the mountains. Albuquerque's International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, held on the first two weekends in October, draws more than 550 balloons and 1,000,000 spectators. Several world-class golf courses, including Paako Ridge (one of Golf Digest's top 10 public courses), are accessible to the public. PREFERRED DESTINATIONS: Very open to Europe, Greek Islands, Caribbean, South and Central America. HOME EXCHANGE AVAILABILITY: Open RENTAL AVAILABILITY: minimum of two weeks RENTAL RATE: $1200 per week - $2,500 per month.
