DESCRIPTION: Our house is 110 year old villa and is a delightful mix of old and new. There are three bedrooms, two of which are mainly used as offices but each has a comfortable double size futon sofa bed. Both also have computers and share a wireless printer. We have ultrafast broadband available throughout the house. We have two bathrooms including a two person spa bath. There are three large flat screen TVs with cable. On cool days you can stay warm and toasty with our wood burner (plenty of wood available) and a heat pump. If the sun is out the front conservatory is a lovely place to read a book and listen to music. Alternatively have a long luxurious soak in our two person spa bath with a view of the harbor. On warm days have a coffee, wine or meals on the deck and watch the windsurfers on the harbour. We think of our home as a private little haven right in the city. Walk into the downtown/shopping/cafe district or catch the bus across the street. No matter the weather our home has the right option. We have a large deck with BBQ facing the sea and harbour and a wonderfully warm conservatory at the opposite end of the house. In spite of being right in the City our house feels quite private from the neighbours and the street. Ian is a Professor in the Management department, University of Otago and Sandy is actively retired. We have been fortunate enough to travel extensively and have exchanged homes 18 times. On this occasion Ian's sabbatical takes us to the University of San Francisco and we are looking for an exchange from approximately 20 June 2016 to 12 August 2016 in the San Francisco Bay area but would consider elsewhere in California during part of that period. METROPOLITAN AREA: Our home is in the lovely little coastal city of Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand. The population is only 125,000 but there are an extraordinary number of things to see and do. For example, we have our very own castle, the only royal albatross colony on a mainland, yellow-eyed penguins and the steepest street in the world. If you like to ski we are only a 3 ½ hour drive to the world renown at ski resorts in Queenstown. We can offer our car as part of the exchange. Please see our listing #98926. Our street in the 'gold' days was the home of successful merchants and City Officials with trolleys running up and down to Princes Street. Now it is a mix of Victorian and Edwardian homes and apartments. It is popular because most homes have fabulous views and the main shopping & cafe area of the City is only a few minutes away. It is also a main bus line (bus stop across from the house) and it is easy to catch a bus to locations all around the City including out to the City Beach PREFERRED DESTINATIONS: San Francisco Bay area PERIOD OF AVAILABILITY: 20 June 2016 to 12 August 2016
