DESCRIPTION: My apartment (150 sq. meters) is located on the top floor (an Italian second floor, walk up 68 steps) of an unassuming 12th century palazzo in the historical center of Firenze, Italy. Most of its sunny rooms overlook a quiet inner garden adjoining the garden of the hotel Monna Lisa and the Teatro della Pergola. Beyond the trees one can see Brunelleschi's cupola of the Duomo, about 150 meters away. One bedroom overlooks the rooftops of a backstreet.
The apartment is on two levels joined by the short, narrow staircase of the 13th century turret. On the lower level (wooden floors) there are a sitting room, a dining room, a bathroom, a smaller bedroom (full-size bed), and a small newly fitted kitchen. On the second level (carpeted) there are another bathroom, a large bedroom with a queen-size bed, an extra bed/sofa and a small sunken terrace, a small study where a camp bed can be fitted in case of need. The apartment sleeps 4-5. Some of the furniture is 18th and early 19th century and needs care. The antique china can be removed on request but the books stay and there are lots of them. There is an air-conditioning unit upstairs; a couple of electric fans and the judicious use of shutters keep the rooms cool downstairs, in hot weather.

RENTAL RATE: I will rent the apartment by the week for €1200 p.w., or swap it for a comparable (smaller will do) place in Manhattan, San Francisco, Cambridge MA, central Paris, or something on the Mediterranean coast, preferably a Greek Island or in Spain. I also rent (only to women) lovely rooms with the same view, all year round, in the apartment adjoining mine.
